Salt glazing is a old technique dating back to the middle ages in France and Germany, where salt was added when firing clay to accomplish this unique form of glazing. These crock pots are carefully handpainted before fired at temperature around approximately 1.300 degrees celsius. During the firing, salt is sprayed into the oven and is almost explosive when reacts with surface of the clay due to the high temperatures. A chemical reaction happens that changes the surface and the glazing is formed. Salt glazing is extremely strong and more resistant to tear and wear.
